Corrugated board is formed by gluing one or more sheets of fluted corrugating medium (the wavy paper in the middle) to one or more flat facings of linerboard. Common types of corrugated board are:

  • Single Face

  • Single Wall

  • Double Wall

  •  

Flute is a sheet of corrugating medium that is shaped into a continuous rolling wave. Well-known types of flutes include A, B, C, E, F flutes

Flute Types Corrugated Board thickness Application
A-Flute 0.3125"/8mm Most widely used when structural strength is required. Not typically used for high graphics that are printed directly on to the board.
C-Flute 0.1875"/ 5mm Most widely used when structural strength is required. Not typically used for high graphics that are printed directly on to the board.
B-flute 0.125"/ 3mm Good print surface and strong structure
E-flute 0.0625"/ 1.6mm Excellent print surface that shows minimal flute lines or washboardings.
F-flute 0.04"/ 1mm Better printing than E-flute
